Fort Wayne, as the 75th largest city in the US, is hardly a teaming metropolis. However, that doesn’t mean that we lack opportunities for entertainment and recreation. For those that are looking to relax and enjoy themselves while they visit Fort Wayne for our reception over the holiday weekend, here are a few ideas.
The Fort Wayne Convention and Visitors Bureau offers a handy tab that shows you many things to do and see in Fort Wayne. It looks like there are a few events going on the weekend of our wedding. For instance, on Saturday, Erik Vosteen presents traditional Great Lakes pottery, stone crafts and tools at the Chief Richardville House.
We really enjoy the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, which has been rated one of the top 10 zoos in the country by Parents Magazine. You might also check out Science Central or the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory. If you’re into cars and you don’t mind going a little ways north of FW, you could always check out the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum.
Fort Wayne is unofficially known as the City of Churches, so if you are looking for somewhere to attend on Sunday morning, you might take a look at this Fort Wayne Church Guide. If you stick around through Sunday night, there is a TinCaps baseball game, followed by fireworks, of course.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat, then the Coliseum Boulevard area between Lima Road and Parnell Avenue has a wide variety of options. Those staying at the Lima & Washington Center area will find quite a few options available as well. Here are a few additional gems to consider that we are especially fond of:
- Granite City
- Casa Grille
- J K O’Donnell’s
- Cebolla’s
- Toscani Pizzeria
- B. Antonio’s Pizza
- Asakusa
- Biaggi’s
Finally, for a great guide to all the events and happenings around Fort Wayne, check out the online magazine Whatzup. They keep track of all the arts, entertainment, and recreation options in the area.
